Tactile Cues For Ship Bridge Operations
نویسندگان
چکیده
Current modes of conveying operational information on ship bridges are mainly in the form of visual and auditory sensory inputs. During safety critical situations, such as dynamic positioning (DP) operation, reliance on these two senses may be insufficient. In a DP operation the role of the DP operator is critical and most incidents happen due to lack of operator ́s situational awareness. Therefore exploitation of other sensory inputs in addition to visual and auditory must be investigated. This paper surveys recent research on response times of vibro-tactile, visual and auditory cues. The survey concludes that tactile cue always has shorter response time compared to other stimuli. And its combination with other cues such as visual and auditory can enhance the effectiveness of response time. Therefore new ship bridge developers should take this knowledge into account to increase design efficiency.

متن کاملHeavy Weather Ship Handling Simulation With and Without Motion
Despite the fact that high risk sailing operations are often caused by heavy weather and characterized by vigorous ship motions, the vast majority of (full mission) bridge simulators are Earth fixed. We therefore evaluated the value of adding motion to ship simulation in terms of technical feasibility, measurability of performance, and effects on training. Of eighteen navy personnel, nine recei...

Spatial orientation is critical for air operations. Perception of orientation is continuously maintained by accurate information from the visual, vestibular, and somatosensory systems in daily terrestrial activities. The various contributions of these senses can be significantly altered in variable gravitoinertial environments, or when one of the sensory cues is markedly reduced. The visual ori...

The damage and failure in engineering structures, especially offshore structures, and hull of ship structures, causes economic losses, human disasters, and environmental problems. Therefore, diagnosing and predicting the occurrence of failure in these structures is vital. In this situation, engineers have introduced the use of structural health monitoring operations as a suitable way to prevent...

After analyzing the existing simplified methods of ship-bridge collision and comparing their pros and cons, a relatively safe simplified analysis process is put forward. The time-history curve of the ship collision force obtained from the ship-rigid wall collision simulation using the software LS-DYNA is put into the whole bridge dynamic model in SAP2000 and then dynamic response analysis of th...
